Debated in Parliament on 6 Mar 2026.
Kenneth Tiong Boon Kiat questioned the Acting Minister for Transport about unauthorized works on LTA-managed state land in front of private properties, seeking statistics on reports received, enforcement actions taken, and LTA's policy on modifications by property owners. Jeffrey Siow reported that there were about 25 reports in the past three years, with four cases rectified by owners; the remaining cases are pending resolution. For unauthorized works that impact safety and connectivity, property owners are mandated to restore the affected areas at their own expense.
Mr Kenneth Tiong Boon Kiat asked the Acting Minister for Transport (a) in the past three years, how many reports of unauthorised works on LTA-managed state land fronting private properties were received; (b) how many resulted in enforcement action; and (c) what is LTA's policy on private property owners modifying road kerbs on such land including cost liability of restoration works that encroach on adjoining frontages of another private property.
In the past three years, there have been about 25 reports to the Land Transport Authority regarding unauthorised works on road reserve fronting private landed housing. Four have thus far been rectified by the owners. The remaining cases, which are assessed to not affect safety and connectivity, are pending resolution with the homeowners.
